Terms and Conditions for Kairo's K9s Training Services

Thank you for choosing Kairo’s K9s Training. By booking any service, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to the following Terms & Conditions. These policies exist to ensure clarity, safety, and a consistent training experience for all clients and their dogs.

Definitions

For the purposes of these Terms:

  • “Client” means the person who books and pays for services and accepts responsibility for compliance with these Terms.

  • “Handler” means any person handling, training, walking, or supervising the dog during services (including family members, roommates, friends, or caregivers).

  • “Dog” means the dog(s) listed in your booking and intake forms, including any additional dogs present in the home during services.

The Client is responsible for ensuring all Handlers follow trainer instructions, safety protocols, and management requirements during and between sessions.

1. Services Provided

Kairo’s K9s Training offers:

  • In-home private training

  • Behaviour modification and reactivity support

  • Puppy development and foundation work

  • Structured dog walking and enrichment services

  • In-home pet-care visits

All services are delivered using science-based, LIMA-aligned, minimally aversive methods. Services may be updated, changed, or discontinued as needed.

Right Fit Policy (Scope and Referrals)

Integrity matters. If, during an assessment or session, we determine that your dog’s needs fall outside our scope, we may pause or discontinue services for safety and ethical reasons.

If this occurs:

  • We will explain why we believe another professional or specialist is a better fit.

  • We will provide referrals where possible (e.g., veterinary behaviour support, IAABC/CCPDT behaviour consultants, force-free specialists, or your veterinarian).

  • If we terminate the service during the assessment due to scope limitations identified in-session, you will not be charged for that appointment.

This policy applies only when we determine the case is outside our scope (not when services are ended due to unsafe environments, withheld information, or client non-compliance).

2. Assumption of Risk

Working with animals carries inherent risks. By participating in any service, you understand and accept that:

  • Dogs may bite, scratch, redirect, or behave unpredictably

  • Slips, falls, or environmental hazards may occur during in-home or outdoor sessions

  • Your dog may react to triggers, wildlife, loose dogs, vehicles, or people

  • Training cannot guarantee the elimination of reactivity, aggression, or behavioural concerns

You voluntarily assume all associated risks.

3. Release of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Kairo’s K9s Training—including its owner, trainers, employees, and contractors—is not liable for:

  • Injuries to dogs, people, or property

  • Veterinary bills, medical costs, or third-party claims

  • Damage caused by your dog before, during, or after services

  • Incidents resulting from failure to follow trainer instructions

  • Environmental or third-party events beyond our control

Owners accept full responsibility and financial liability for their dog’s behaviour.

4. Owner Responsibilities

Clients agree to:

  • Disclose all known behavioural concerns (reactivity, aggression, bite history, fear)

  • Disclose health conditions, medications, injuries, mobility issues, or relevant medical history

  • Follow all trainer recommendations and safety protocols

  • Use equipment requested by the trainer (muzzles, long lines, harnesses, gates, barriers)

  • Supervise children at all times during sessions

  • Keep their dog leashed unless the trainer instructs otherwise

  • Provide a safe and secure environment for training, walking, and entry/exit from the home

Failure to disclose important behaviour or health information may result in immediate termination of services without refund.

5. Securing the Environment & Household Pets

To protect your dog, the trainer, and the public, owners must ensure:

  • All gates, doors, and exits are secure

  • Other household pets are safely contained before trainer arrival

  • No off-leash pets are present during entry or exit

  • Hazards (ice, clutter, loose animals, aggressive pets) are addressed before services begin

Kairo’s K9s Training is not responsible for pets who escape, bolt through doors, or access unsafe areas due to unsecured environments.

6. Health & Vaccination Requirements

All dogs must be:

  • Free from contagious illness

  • Up-to-date on core vaccinations or titre tested, with documentation provided

  • Free from external parasites

  • Cleared for physical exercise if medically complex

If your dog appears unwell, services must be rescheduled. We reserve the right to decline service to any dog who appears unsafe or ill.

7. Safety Protocols for Behaviour Cases

For dogs exhibiting fear, reactivity, aggression, or unpredictability, owners agree to:

  • Follow all safety and management instructions

  • Use muzzles when requested

  • Maintain appropriate distance from triggers

  • Secure the home environment before training

  • Avoid introducing unapproved people or dogs into sessions

The trainer may stop or modify the session if behaviour becomes unsafe.

8. Public Walk Safety & Uncontrolled Triggers

During structured walks, the environment may include:
